DESIGNÂ position
This design targets the experience of the pedestrian to the State Library of Victoria. It opens up the library to more public access from the streets surrounding it and is emphasize with a lane way and arcade that runs through the library. The design has a focus on the physical and visual details a pedestrian may experience as they pass and inhabit a space. A new extension explores the intimate domestic experience of a home office for the tertiary education precinct that neighbors the library. The new north facade draws the pedestrian in with a familiar commercial glass front displaying a collection of books one end and a gallery on the other. The architecture that is used complements the public through program and experience.
